The Lost ©©

I stand by the window looking out
Watching the night slowly creep in
The doors close and are double locked
While others hidden by the daylight, open

The creatures of the night emerge
To claim any stragglers left behind
To swell the ranks of the unseen and forgotten
To feed off of the weak of mind and soul

The night is my domain
The land I wander out in
The same ground others do in the day light
But it’s not day now and now you’re mine

The darkness is my safety blanket
Where home is for those forgotten few
For those who hide from the pain the light brings
The memories still seen in the scares worn by the few

The night is a world with but eight hours of life
A short existence where a split second is a lifetime
And a generation is swallowed up in its shadow
To be stepped over in the light of day

With every burnt streetlight the shadows grow
Reaching out into the burning rays of light
Stealing a little bit more every day
Swelling the ranks of the dark side of life

As night creeps in I walk the streets
To hear the cries of the beaten
Feel the dieing pulse of hope
As I stand in a the puddle of wasted life

Darkness grows to swallow the daylight
Hope diminishes to be replaced by despair
Even the light of day is dull next to the growing darkness
The darkness that grows from within not from the outside

The night has but eight hours of life
But the darkness has no sunrise or sunset
It lives forever
Until it’s pushed out for the light to enter once more

This was very powerful Walker and conjured up vivid images in my mind. The verse below was particularly rivetting.....

.....brilliant!
