Shadows In The Sand ©©

Only the wind and the sand remain
Swirling around in this distant desert
Concealing me from you
Or you from me

Lost behind this curtain
Left to wander from one void to the next
Without an oasis in sight
A place to lie down for just one night

Suspended in oblivion
A vapor to be whispered but never seen
Wiped away from the chalkboards of time
And mind

The wind etches time on innocent faces
Carving out the maps of paths chosen
Broken lines of those untaken
Those now lost forever to us

A storm is building from ancient times
Cursing the future with drought
Leaving only blood to nourish the ground
To feed the earth so the sky could bleed tears of sorrow

Maybe when the earth is silent
The wind would be gone
The curtain would collapse and the unseen
Would be seen for the first time

Maybe if we went silent now
The storm would die away
The wind would be gone
Tears of joy would turn deserts to forests

Time drains away in the hourglass
Burying the future with the past
Blinding those who can see
While fear drives the world

It’s all in the sands of time
Swirling in the hour glass
Keeping the curtain up
As the wind blows in circles

If I only had the time.
